A professional Twenty20 cricket competition called the Kashmir Premier League (KPL) was established in 2021. There are six franchises in the league. While one squad represents Kashmiris living abroad, five teams represent the five largest cities in Azad Kashmir.

The top four teams from each round-robin competition advance to the playoffs and eventually the championship game. It was declared in August 2021 that matches in the Kashmir Premier League do not have official T20 status.
