Sahihain: The Twin Pillars of Authentic Hadith Literature
Sahihain (Arabic: الصحيحين) refers to the two most revered and authentic Hadith collections in Sunni Islam: Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. These texts are considered second only to the Qur’an in authority and reliability, forming the core of Islamic jurisprudence and theology.
The Two Books of Sahihain:
- Sahih al-Bukhari: Compiled by Imam Muhammad ibn Isma’il al-Bukhari, this collection includes over 7,000 Hadiths, meticulously selected from hundreds of thousands using strict criteria of authenticity.
- Sahih Muslim: Authored by Imam Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj, this compilation contains around 7,275 Hadiths, known for their precise arrangement and scholarly rigor.
Together, these books are foundational to the Sihah Sitta (The Six Authentic Books) and are widely studied in Islamic seminaries and universities. They cover a vast range of topics including faith, worship, ethics, and the sayings of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
