The Moon has significantly less mass and a smaller radius than the Earth. Although the radius is smaller, the decrease in mass has a much greater impact on the escape velocity. As a result, the escape velocity on the Moon is considerably lower than on Earth. The escape velocity from the Earth’s surface is approximately 11.2 km/s, while the escape velocity from the Moon’s surface is about 2.4 km/s.
