Imam Muhammad bin Ismail Bukhari was a renowned Islamic scholar and one of the most respected collectors of hadith. Born in Bukhara (in modern-day Uzbekistan) in 810 CE, his full name was Abū ‘Abd Allāh Muḥammad ibn Ismā‘īl ibn Ibrāhīm ibn al-Mughīrah ibn Bardizbah al-Ju‘fī al-Bukhārī. His most celebrated work is Sahih al-Bukhari, a collection of hadith that is widely regarded by Sunni Muslims as the most authentic book after the Quran. Al-Bukhari dedicated his life to traveling and painstakingly collecting thousands of hadith, which are the sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad, rigorously verifying their chain of transmission and authenticity. He is considered one of the greatest hadith scholars in history.
