When the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) migrated to Madinah during the Hijrah, his camel — Al-Qaswa — stopped at the site that later became Masjid an-Nabawi.
According to historical accounts, the Prophet (PBUH) allowed Al-Qaswa to walk freely upon entering Madinah, saying that it was under Allah’s command. The camel eventually knelt and stopped on a plot of land that belonged to two orphan boys from the Banu Najjar tribe. The Prophet (PBUH) purchased the land from them, and this is where Masjid an-Nabawi was built.
