Salat al-Kusuf (prayer during a solar eclipse) was first performed by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in 5 A.H during a solar eclipse in Medina. This Sunnah prayer involves two rak’ahs with prolonged recitation, ruku, and sujood. The Prophet (PBUH) emphasized that eclipses are signs of Allah’s power, urging believers to pray, repent, and give charity. Unlike regular prayers, it includes sermons (khutbah) after the prayer. This practice underscores Islam’s integration of natural phenomena into acts of worship, fostering humility and reflection on divine majesty. The first Salat-e-Kusuf set a precedent for Muslims to respond to cosmic events with devotion rather than superstition.
