Biogas is mainly made up of methane (CH₄) and carbon dioxide (CO₂).
Typically, biogas contains:
- Methane (CH₄): 50-75%
- Carbon Dioxide (CO₂): 25-50%
It can also contain smaller amounts of other gases such as:
- Hydrogen sulfide (H₂S)
- Nitrogen (N₂)
- Hydrogen (H₂)
- Ammonia (NH₃)
- Water vapor (H₂O)
However, methane and carbon dioxide are the primary components that make up the bulk of biogas. The methane content is what makes biogas a valuable fuel source, as it is a combustible gas.Sources and related content
